Angels Of Hope Children’s Home, Kibra
Angels Of Hope-Kibera (AOHK) was founded on July 11th, 2010. It is a registered non-profit Community-Based Organization(C.B.O) aiming at achieving community development in Soweto West, a village of Kibera, Nairobi’s and East Africa’s largest slum. It strives to combat in a committed and responsible manner poverty, including homelessness, hunger, illiteracy, and HIV/AIDS.
Rooted at the heart of Kibra, Angels Of Hope Children’s Home and School offers the much needed environment and a second chance to life for homeless children . Headed by women, Angels of Hope provides a learning environment for disadvantaged children from the ages of three to nine . AOHK provides basic education for children up to 6 years old, and facilitates sponsorship for children aged 7 and above.
The founder Ms Regynnah prides the success of the center to the dedication of the volunteer teachers and caretakers , who happen to be women.
Our visit to the center revealed how the volunteers were struggling to keep the children at the center. But one major thing that should be considered is come up with income generating activities to help run the center operations smoothly.
AOHK is striving to come up with Income generating activities to help parents gain greater financial independence as well as to ensure the centre’s sustainability.
To that aim, the centre has been consulting the community about possible income generating activities that the members would like to embark on. It is the centre’s intention to give priority to activities that can benefit both individual people and the community and centre as a whole. For instance: tailoring can benefit a newly trained parent or guardian while providing an opportunity to sew uniforms potentially for every children of the centre or to sell uniforms within the community, thereby raising funds for the centre to be used for the benefit of the children.
The following ideas are currently under consideration:
- Keeping poultry
- Growing vegetables
- Beeds, ornaments
Your generous donation and support is welcome in any of the above projects.
